Common deductions for uber drivers
These are typical expenses you may be able to claim against your taxable profit.
Mileage (45p per mile)
Claim 45p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles, then 25p per mile. This covers fuel, insurance, and wear and tear.
Vehicle running costs
If you use actual costs instead of mileage, you can claim fuel, insurance, servicing, repairs, and MOT — proportioned to business use.
Phone and data plan
The business portion of your mobile phone contract and data plan used for the Uber app and navigation.
Uber service fees
The commission Uber deducts from your fares is already excluded from your taxable income, but any additional platform fees may be deductible.
Car wash and cleaning
Regular vehicle cleaning costs to maintain passenger standards are a deductible business expense.
Parking and tolls
Congestion charges, toll fees, and parking costs incurred while working are deductible. Fines and penalties are not.
Private hire licence
Your TfL or local authority private hire driver licence and vehicle licence renewal fees.
Accounting fees
Costs for an accountant or tax software to prepare your Self Assessment return.
